How It’s Made
Below are images from the creation process of the mandalas, amulets, and music. I will continue adding as I make new pieces. I have been more concerned with making the pieces than photographing the process so far, so I will work on it bit by bit.
Mandala Design
There are several steps to designing and making the mandalas. I first create the design using five elemental shapes of Feng Shui. To come up with the patterns, I think about music. Doing so helps me create patterns with rhythm and movement, which translates to the energy pattern it creates in a space.
The design is then transferred to mulberry paper, otherwise known as Shoji paper or Hanji. It has beautiful natural fiber inclusions which is enhanced by the translucent or semi-translucent nature of the paper. Each shape is cut from the paper by hand. I use a magnifying glass to help with this fine detail.
After the mandalas are cut, I hang them on a Japanese-style scroll so they can emit their healing energy into the space. The scroll also has Reiki symbols best suited to the space added to them, though they are not visible. These symbols create a flow of Reiki energy that is purifying, and combine with the elemental energies, they create a balancing, cleansing effect in the environment that is healing and supports new growth. (I will add photos of the scroll making process in the near future.)
Amulet Pyrography
Each amulet is drawn and burned by hand into wood disks. Since it is very fine detail, I use a magnifying lamp and a very fine point to burn thin, clean lines. The wood in each disk is a little different in tone, texture, and grain tightness, which effects the way it burns, so no two amulets will look exactly the same.
